RECIPE HOME MADE ITALIAN ICE CREAM
Ingredients:
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 4 egg yolks
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
In a medium saucepan, combine the milk and heavy cream. Heat the mixture over medium heat until it begins to simmer, then remove it from the heat.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the sugar and egg yolks until the mixture is light and frothy.
Slowly pour the hot milk mixture into the bowl with the egg mixture, whisking constantly to combine.
Pour the mixture back into the saucepan and heat it over medium heat, stirring constantly with a wooden spoon, until it thickens and coats the back of the spoon.
Remove the mixture from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
Let the mixture cool to room temperature, then cover it and refrigerate it for at least 2 hours, or until it is completely chilled.
Once the mixture is chilled, pour it into an ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer's instructions.
When the gelato is finished churning, transfer it to a container and freeze it for at least 2 hours, or until it is firm enough to scoop.
